| Can someone help with the history of the Kell engraving family. Was there a Henry and a Harry Kell? I believe Harry Kell was taught by his father. So the question might be, what was Harry's father's name? Thank you for any help, Steve Lindsay PS.. The new FEGA site and forum looks super! |

| I think the H & H engraving book has information about the Kell's. My book is uptown at my gallery or I would look it up tonight. If you or others have the book, you might check and see if the Kell's are in it. Glad you like the site - we're trying to improve! |

| Yes, his father's name was Henry John Kell. In the book, "British Gun Engraving" by Douglas Tate (Safari Press), it says Harry started as an apprentice at his fathers firm of Sanders & Kell in 1884 - when he was 14 years old. In 1919 Sanders died and Harry became partner with his father. When he died in 1958 he was considered the finest engraver of his time. In 1994 his pattern books were sold at Christie's. The book states Harry trained Ken Hunt. The book also says Harry was the 'bridge' between old style wildlife scenes and todays super realistic scenes. |
