how do I french grey the scrollwork on a gun after it is blued
Please, somebody save me! I need to know how to remove bluing from only the scrolls in an engravings job on a handgun. I have heard about acid etching, pink erasers, etc., but what I need is detailed, step by step, use this tool this way, instructions. (I'm quite anal!)Thank you in advance for the lifeline

I use a good blue remover like Brownells blue remover as it is doesn't rust back. You need to mask the areas that you don't want the bluse removed.
Some use fingernail polish, some use enamel. Some are really brave and just use a brush to apply the remover but I find the fumes will give a "ragged" edge.
Mask off, remove blue with a good paint brush, rinse, touch up with a pink eraser and remove maksing paint.

One of my friends uses a toothpick for the tiny areas. This sort of work will take a lot of time to do nicely so be sure to bring a lunch!

Sam's toothpick idea is a good one as well.
I use one but I also use good quality sable brushes for the masking and blue removing.
I might add the pink eraser is for "blending" the gray after the blue is removed. In a perfect world the gray will be a nice even color but chances are you will get splotches. The pink eraser acts as a mild abrasive and will blend the colors.
Clear as mud???

Thanks for the help. Now I just have to find the courage! If any one has some extra, send it along to me.
