Topic: Problems with finger tips goin numb.  Number of Responses: 6

As a new engraving enthusiest I have been practicing dillegently for about a month now. I am enjoying all the challenges except one. After only a couple of hours with the Gravermax I find my index finger tip and to some extent, my thumb, to be "numb". I hesitate to call it truly numb, as it also vaguely hurts at the same time. If this was only transitory, it would not be a problem, however, the discomfort lasts for several days! Has anyone else had this malady and if so, did it eventualy go away or did you find a remedy?

Thanks,

Mark

ps. Anyone interested in a MagnagraverII with VARI-PAC option, go to the BUY-SELL section of this web site. No I'm not giving up, I just have an extra engraving tool to sell.

The first is Tom Moro, previously located in Walla Walla, Washington. The second is W. Reno, located in Colorado.

Topic: Selling Magnagraver II  Number of Responses: 0

I have a Magragraver II that is only one year old and has been used less than 12 hours! I bought it as a package deal from a guy who bought all the starting equipment, (ball, entire GRS sharpening system, books etc.). I had already decided I wanted a pneumatic system so I had bought a Gravermax. The Magnagraver II has the VARI-PAC option and the heavy duty electronic footpedal. With the gravers and the wood carving tools and books, the cost new is $600.00. I am willing to sell it for $500.00. If your interested contact me here or at mfsedlakdds@erols.com

Thanks,

Mark

Topic: Rust Pockets  Number of Responses: 9

I am having a problem with a gun I am engraving. It is an old Egnlish side by side, a Fred Willaims 12ga. The owner wants it to be cleaned up and restore the original engraving. I am finding rust pockets in the metal. I want to try and dill a hole a bit (.010) smaller than a piece of dowl, heat up the metal to expand the hole and carefully tap in the dowl, then aneal and engrave. I am not sure if this is the best way to solve the problem or not plus there are several pockets of rust. I have the piece polished to a very nice lusture, I layed out the parts to engrave and, "click" rust, re-sharpen, "click" rust, re-sharpen, well I was wondering if anone had an idea. Thanks,
Tad

Topic: black backgrounds  Number of Responses: 4

As a newcomer to hand engraving on metal, I have some questions. I have a background in wood engraving for printing and have done scrimshaw and etchings, again for printing. As I go through the classic books on engraving and after visiting many websites I can't figure out how the background behind much of the scrollwork are made so black. For example on Lindsay's site, he shows some fabulous knife engraving with gold inlays. The backgroung is a pure flat black and really makes the engraving jump out. I have tried the "Antique Black" chemicals from N-graver Co. These help, but are nowhere near the effect I see in the books etc. Even on photos of old firearms, the engraving shows up with crisp contrast to the metal. What am I missing? Any info would be welcome.

Topic: engraver?  Number of Responses: 0

I have a bit of a problem. Does anyone here know of an engraver from Missouri named Hunt Brewer? I lost his website address and can't remember his company's name. He had called me and I didn't get his number thinking I had all that information. I can't believe I did it...but I did. Thanks for any help.
