I found your website and hope someone can help me, or refer me to someone who can. My wife inherited a revolver that belonged to her grandfather. It is in excellent condition and I would like to have his name engraved on the backstrap; ten letters. We live in southeast Kansas and I would want to drive to the person who would do the engraving.
I now this is a small job, but it would be meaningful to her.

Mike .. I get a lot of request to engrave names on guns or personalize them . as for as I am concerned that is the worst thing you can do to any gun especially if it is an antique gun , that name now devalue that gun and no body else would want to pay the market value price for that gun once it has been personalized .. I agree with Ron Nott.
Once you cut a name on the gun it has very little collector value and ruins it's historical value too.
An exception to this would be guns such as the ones presented by Sam Colt to famous people and personilized at the time of presentation.
What type of gun is it? It may be very valuable if not disturbed.
You could have a beautiful wood display box or frame made with your wife's and grandfathers name on a memorial plaque and that may be a better choice.

This revolver is an S&W M&P with 2 in bbl, manufactured in 1949. My wife's grandfather was a banker all his life and probably kept it in his desk drawer in his office. It has been re-blued at least once, so has little or no collector value. It will never leave the family.

This months issue of The American Rifleman magazine mentions the collector interest and value of the S&W M&P model and the added rareity and value of the 2 inch barrel model.

Even though your gun has meen reblued it can still probably be properly restored to original condition and factory blue.

Please think hard before engraving a name on the fine old gun.
