| John B little gravers |
I Just finished recutting the lettering on 2 old 1911 slides for practice using the gravers that John described how to make and with help and advice of John,Sam and Rex they turned out really well.
Now getting ready to try to recut the #s on some of my old impact sockets and maybe to try to cut a scroll or 2 on them for more practice.

I made some too and they work great. 5 bits and the 2 pieces of tubing John described for less than $18.

Hey John,
Has anyone had trouble with the brass shanks bending? Maybe I'm just a "Gorilla" :)

Ron,
In Reno, John gave me one he made and I bent it. Figured I was pushing too hard. When I made my own I used a longer piece of the drill bit so I won't bend it. Won't get as many out of the same amount of materials but it work and I'm not bending them. John must have a really light touch.

Kevin has the answer above.
Make the cobalt full length and solder into the brass tube.
I posted this right after Reno on the Sam A's Engraver Forum and I thought on this forum too.
I'll check on the old FEGA forum posting and see if it was added.
Sorry if it caused you problems. make 'em this way and you will like them.
It only raise the cost up to about $1.30 total each and saves a lot of time and metal removing.

Hi Folks
Looking back on my old posts I note that I did post the change needed to keep the gravers from bending from heavy use.
It was posted as "MAKING SMALL GRAVERS and TOOLS" on 02/17/07, soon after my return from Reno.
Some may have missed it as I note there were no responses.
Friend Ron may have missed it because it was BC.....before computer!!!!!
