What process do they use to remove nickel or chrome from a gun prior to engraving.

There are some methods for removing chrome or nickel bu tthey can be complicated and/or expensive. I would suggest having a well respected plater remove it. They use a reverse process to do it just like the plating. While removing blue can be done easily at home I just suggest having the plating done by a pro.

I agree with Rex. I have stripped electroless nickel at home and it took some 13 hours and a lot of work. I have never tried electroplated pieces and would not! It really is best to start with a blued gun in my opinion, a lot less time and expense...but that doesn't really help your situation. You might post on the igraver.com or engravingforum.com sites for more info and names of sources.

Check the Brownells website, they have two solutions for removing nickel plating that amateurs can use.
