Antique engraving tool set for sale. |
I am an Antiques dealer and recently purchased a complete set of engraving tools which belonged to John Derr, a Berks County PA gunsmith, who worked from about 1810 to 1860. I was hoping to see if anyone in FEGA would be interested in these great tools, even though I was reasonably sure they would strictly be as a Collectors item. There are 24 tool handles w/blades on top shelf of the home made box, below that area there is a panel that is a hidden drawer. When that is removed, there are two drawers on either side. There must be about 100 extra blades of different types, 2 hammers and a tool to remove the blades from the handles.....I think the blades are case hardened. If anyone is intersted they can contact me via email. Regards, Joanne Conti

Dear Bill,
My wife, Kehau, and I are both FEGA members and took part in the annual Show for the first time this year. Although I cannot see the pictures too well, it seems that this is such a unique and fantastic antique engraving set, well documented, that the FEGA Board should purchase it for current and future members - with full and complete pictures on the member's website, and to be on display at all FEGA shows and booths. Please pursue this idea. I think the Board would find this an excellent way to use some of the Treasury funds as an investment in FEGA.

Joanne, I'm not sure these are engraving tools. Can you get a better picture of a few of them up close, particularly of the blades?
Aloha, Ka'imiloa, Good to see you on the forum. These look more like wood carving tools to me, but you can't see them too well. What do you think? They are a beautiful set however, and you can tell they are very professional and whoever used them was serious about his craft. I have never seen anything like this. Quality stuff!.............
How you been doing buddy? Ron S

I posted the message for Joanne Conti - they were not my tools. (See the first post.) You will need to contact her to find out the status of the tools.
