TRANSFER SOLUTUIONS

Has anybody ever tried this guys solution? I read his thread and emailed him this morning. He had a SUPER QUICK REPLY which was cool.

Just wanting to know if anyone has tried it and if they liked or disliked it before I buy it.

Thanks
Mark

I take it you are talking about the Solution Magic product from Arizona?
Yes, I have tried and use it and it is first rate as long as you follow the directions and set your copier up to his specs.
A remarkable products from some nice people.

Hi Mark

Ditto to what John has said. The transfer solution is a joy to use. Make sure that you also use the EPSON transparancies. They are hard to find and more expensive than other brands but they work better. You can use other brands but you could end up spending a lot of money to come to the same conclusion.

Mark, If what you are referring to is the transfer magic solution, it does work very well. BUT, I found that you Must use the epson printer, ink and transpariencies exactly as called for in the instructions. Another thing I found was when I tried the transfers down in my shop, which is a little cool, they didn't work so well. So, I brought them up in the kitchen and let them warm up to about 75-80 and then they worked well. You may need to do a lot of burnishing to get the transfer. Hope this helps! Steve Papincak

I am having very good luck using my HP970 deskjet and Hammermill transparancies. Perhaps the Epson gives better definition, but for the detail I need transfered and what I can then fill in as I engrave I am having very good results with this product.

Hi Mark from another Mark.

I love this stuff! But, the guys are correct, you have to find the exact combination of printer inks and transparencies. I had an older Epson printer that used an incompatable ink and it would not work. Like Marty, I now use a HP 930c, but I found the Epson Transparencies on the Internet and they work great. Some inks are pure dyes, while others have a "dry powder" with a binder. It's the powder types that transfer to the work surface.

Best of luck,

Is this solution anything like Damar Varnish?

Norman,

No, they are not the same chemistry. Both, however, work on a similar principal. That is, the ink pigments "bind" to the substrate via the solution painted on the engravable surface. The varnish/acetone/water system works fairly well, but, I find that the Transfer Magic will reproduce far greater detail. The other major advantage of the Transfer Magic is the fact that you are working with a true transparancy and can really see where you are placing your design. There is room in our arsenal for both types of design transfer.

Good luck,

Mark
