blueing after engraving

i have a 1911 ser. 80 i,m engraving on . can anyone point me to a good refinisher for this . i,m very particular about the blueing on this piece . does the carbonia look good? and would it look better over a standard black finish. thanks john pilkington

hi john ..i use doug turnbull for all of my colt rebluing he does a great job on the refinishing end i would suggest that you polish the gun up to what you are loolig for a finial finish . the finish he gives me is called charcoal blue .. i hope this helps .. ron

scott, i am glad to hear from you. i had wanted to contact you in the past but asort of afraid to due to you being such a grand engraver. i am a self taught kind, met mike dubber in 87 at the sands in vegas. had about 3 or 4 yrs. of work at the time . loved the show. got hooked. went up to about 95, then quit for ten yrs. got started again in last 3 months or so . got diamond lap instead of stone , a new microscope. i,m serious now . i use chisel i get from engravers in conn. i have finished a mod.36 s&w. now working on a late mod. ser. 80 colt . i have and still am putting my heart into this piece. i am 53. born in tulsa, i am highly excited about someone like you saying something to me . thanks john

HELLO, JOHN, THE ANSWER TO YOUR FFL PROBLEM IS. YOU DON'T NEED AN FFL TO SEND A FIREARM TO A GUNSMITH FOR REPAIR. THE LAW SAYS ONLY ONE PARTY NEEDS TO HAVE THE FFL. TURNBULL CAN RECEIVE AND RETURN YOUR GUN UNDER HIS FFL. IT IS THE SAME FOR ENGRAVING, THAT IS WHY ENGRAVERS NEED FFL'S TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE AND RETURN FIREARMS FOR WORK IF THEY WANT TO MAKE A LIVING OUT OF IT. OR THERE IS THE GUN SHOP DOWN THE ROAD THAT YOU HAVE TO DEPEND ON.

GOOD LUCK

thanks ed . i should have remembered that as i sent a colt sa, and a off police to a guy in fl. several years ago for nickle plating. i guess i,m not thinking, i,ll call turnbull & send it when i,m finished in a few weeks. i need some gold plate done on some small parts for this piece also . i asked mike dubber last night . waiting on email response. i hope he can find time.if not ,i need to know who can do gold plate of small parts, trigger, hammer, grip screws & mag catch. thanks a lot ed. i just got turnbulls catalog.

HELLO JOHN, I RECENTLY SENT TWO DOUBLE TRIGGERS TO www.artisanplating.com , THEY DID GOOD WORK, BUT THE COST WAS NEAR $150.OO, AND IT TOOK NEARLY TWO MONTHS TO GET THEM BACK. IN THE FUTUR I PLAN TO SET UP AND DO IT MY SELF. I FOUND ANOTHER COMPANY www.caswellplating.com THAT SELLS ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DO THE JOB INCLUDING INSTRUCTIONS FOR A REASONABLE PRICE. I FOUND A ELECTRO PLATING MACHINE (POWER SUPPLY) ON E-BAY FOR A GOOD PRICE, AND NOW I AM JUST ABOUT SET UP TO DO ALL OF MY OWN PLATING IN THE FUTURE.

GOOD LUCK
