Colt SAA |
I have a SAA circa 1906, which is heavily engraved and gold washed. According to the Colt historian, the gun left the factory blued but engraved on the strap "G.M. Parrel No 1 & up." I am trying to determine who the engraver was. To date I haven't been able to find an engraver's mark on it anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Clif,
It's been a long time since 1906 & numerous capable engravers have come & gone since then. If possible, posting a photo may allow someone to recognize tha engraving as that of a certain engraver. Also, have you looked under the grip? As for myself, I mark all single actions on the frame just below the cylinder pin. You might check that spot if you haven't already done so.
Hope that helps!

Dear Mr. Wasfaret,
I am writing to you for my father who does not have email.
Someone mailed him a copy of your post on the FEGA Forum concerning your c.1906 Colt SAA. He is a Colt historian and has recently been researching the "G.M. Parrel" Colts. He owns 2 of these colts, and would like to talk to you about yours and get the serial number. There were only 50 of these that were originally engraved on the strap. He has located just 4 of them, including yours.
Please contact me via my email address: jodettd@earthlink.net so I can give you my father's name and address.
Thank you.
