Is this where I go to find out about engraving? I am trying out my new laptop and am not having a lot of success.
Hi, all of my engraver friends. Its been a long time.
Some body e-mail me back so I can see if this thing works.
I don't know about this Windows Vista stuff. Any body have any experience with it?

Glad to see you’re on line again. I'm sure your computer skills will be right up there with your engraving skills before to long. I'm still trying to figure out how to do multicolor inlays. Maybe some day I'll get someone to explain it, so that I can understand it. Best of luck with your new toy.

Hi Ron
Good to see your computer is up and running. It was my pleasure to meet you at Reno.
Hi Sam
The internet has sure made the world a smaller place and communication a lot easier........perhaps it's time for a name change........how about...."The International Firearms Engravers Guild of America" :-)
Cheers

Oops!
I just found out that you can't go back and forth from topics to responses on this forum. Now I have to start all over BUMMER! Here goes!
Mike,
All you have to do is ask....but it is kind of long to explain on this forum. Maybe I can give you some clues to play with.
Stop me next time I see you and we will talk about it. Multi-colored inlays aren't too hard. Your undercutting techniques are the key.I have two cavities, primary (contour of the space that will hold the metal)and secondary,(channel for the wire)in the bottom of the primary cavity.I inlay sections starting with the worst work hardening metals first, copper, then silver, then gold.Any mixture of metals will work harden faster than pure metals.I cut arond each section slightly cutting out the metal (steel)seam so that it will not come to the surface when I flush the inlay.I inlay one metal, flush it, inlay the next, flush it and so on. I put clear scotch tape over the inlay in two layers and take the inlay down with a file being cqareful not to scuff the tape which indicates that I am getting close to the steel.Once I start scuffing the tape, I pull off a layer or retapewith one layer of tape and continue. I stone it to bring it down to the steel with a water stone. It breaks down and doesn't leave anything but a frosty grain on the steel that will come off fairly easily with 600 or 400 grit.Hope this helps. If anything it will give you something else to try and we can talk about it on the phone or whenever.
Hi David!
How is your wife doing? Give her my regards. She was doing well when we talked last. Staying busy?
Sam,
You are right. It was kind of lonely back in those days.
Rex,
Refer to my response to Marty about email. How you doin'?
Andrew,
I don't think I got to thank you for the fine siminar subject subject at Reno. that was amazing! Enjoyed it and need any computer savy I can get.
Kevin,
QUESTIONS!? QUESTIONS?
I don't think you have enough space on this forum.
Here's one. Can you print this forum out so that you don't have to write it all down before you answer back? I just found out that you can't go back and forth from topic to response.
I have to find out if my printer software is compatable with windows vista. It is kinda old. A week or so :) ...Just kidding.
I have to get a USB line first for connection and then load my software.
WOW! got lots to do!
Thanks for the input, guys, need to clear my phone line. Guess I am going to have to get high speed so I can use the phone. Oh well, it is only money.
Peace! Hope I got everyone.

Ron,
Darcy and "the bun in the oven" are both doing well. We found out on Monday that a little baby girl will be blessing us soon. If mom and baby are feeling up to it, I'll have a tiny sales girl at my table in Reno.
Keeping very busy but having a ball. Email me at dcengraving@yahoo.com when you get all set up and I'll give you more of an update.

Ron,
On the menu bar at the top of the internet explorer screen, usually on the right side, there is an icon for the printer, click on it, or if the menu has the old style words showing you can go to File and then Print. Either of these will print the page but you do need to have your printer installed first.
And I agree with John, some sort of high speed connection (cable, DSL or wireless) will make you internet journey much more ejoyable.

Ron,
Glad to see you back on line.
Happy Easter to you and Liz.
The Creative Art Grand Masters class was pretty intense.
Their approach to bulino was so uncomplicated and practical.
They managed to get the most detail in the least amount of time.
It was rather simple, don't you think?

Hey Ron,
Sounds good! You'll love the high speed! Plus, Liz will be able to use the phone again!! Warning...
Once you get the high speed and find all the stuff out there you won't want to get off! You have a lot of catching up to do.
I don't know anything about Vista either but if its like XP its harder to mess up than the older versions. I know you like to blow up computers!!

Rex,
It almost got to be target material today. I lost my internet explorer icon off of my task bar. It took me all day to get it back. Not only that, It was adding files to my D: drive (recovery system) and i was already getting error messageS SAYING I WAS RUNNING OUT OF MEMORY!!!! and this is a new machine..%$#@3#)
Does it ever end? I have used up about three gigs and I don't know where they went. I think I am digging myself myself a hole, or maybe I should be digging one for this computer. I am back to some semblance of order, but I would like to get those gigs back. I finally got the files off of my recovery system but they went somewhere else, probably onto my C:drive.
Signing off..........I'm tired!

Ron, I might have all of my fingers, but somedays when it comes to engraving and guitars, they might as well be all toes.
The "GitFiddle" gets a workout 3-4 hours a week. I play lead guitar in our Church's Praise and Worship band. Hopefully, you'll notice a difference the next time we get together. And we need to get that Weldon Lister fellow in the fold.........His father is "Big Bill" Lister and spent some time touring with Hank Williams. Not only is Weldon a good engraver, he's probably a darn good guitar picker, too.
My 3 kids and I have spent the last year intensely learning the Steel Drum.
An unique instrument to say the least.
As far as the Creative Art Grandmasters was concerned, I guess I meant that their proceedure for bulino was uncomplicated. Poor choice of words on my part.
