James Ehlers received a Bachelor of Arts degree from McNeese State University, where he studied printmaking and became enamored with metal engraving. He continued his studies at Bradley University and the University of Florida, where he received his Master of Fine Arts degree. Currently, he is the Don and Mary Glaser Distinguished Professor of Engraving Arts at Emporia State University in Kansas -- the only school in the nation to offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Engraving Arts.
