Mike Fennell grew up on a farm near Council Bluffs, Iowa, where Lewis and Clark held their historic Council on the Bluffs with local Indian tribes. His love of firearms and art began at age 5.

Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Creighton University, Omaha Nebraska, a school founded by the brothers Joseph and Edward Creighton who brought the first telegraph from Omaha, Nebraska to Sacramento, California in 1861.

In his first year at Creighton, Mike was accepted onto the Varsity Rifle Team and won his first National Title in his first season of competition.

That season, Mike also became the first and only freshman to ever become Varsity Team Captain, a position he retained until he graduated. Mike also formed the first Women's Varsity Team and guided the two Varsity Teams to the winningest record in the 138-year history of the University. Mike also founded the school's Archery Club and the German Language Club.

Mike also earned a Juris Doctor Degree from the Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago, Illinois.

After an career in defense litigation that spanned three decades, he placed his Law License in retirement in 2009 to pursue a further career in engraving, which had captivated his imagination at an early age.

Mike’s engravings have been published in The Engraver Magazine: the International Journal of Hand Engraving and in the Ohio Gun Collectors Association Publication.

Mike is now Vice President Blue of the Firearm Engravers Guild of America, and is responsible for the prestigious Engraver Recognition Awards Program, with the help and support of much-appreciated Awards Sponsors and member volunteers.
